Coordinators adding members to events using "back door"
« on: November 03, 2020, 08:15:28 pm »
A question from Jim:

Some members who do not currently have a paid membership have asked to be included on events "in the interim" while we're awaiting a decision on returning to a voluntary donation model.  Jim has been using the "back door" to add members onto events.  His question is - what is the executive perspective/stance on this?

Note that, when a coordinator uses the "back door" to add someone, the web site does require that person to accept the waiver on the site.

Thoughts from everyone?

(When I say the "back door", what I mean is the "Add Member to Event" option available under "Manage Events")

My opinion:

We have a "Town Hall" on November 25th to discuss changing back to a voluntary donation model.

That is coming up very quickly, and my opinion is that, if people want to add folks through the "back door" prior to that discussion, that is ok with me.

At the "Town Hall" we should be able to form a clearer picture of our direction moving forward.  Until then, I think "back door-ing it" is ok.

I agree with El Presidente. The fees may be going away anyway, so why should members have to pay.

Based on the current level of event postings, I can't see this being necessary more than a handful of times anyway so I'm more than comfortable with coordinators using it until we can officially address membership fees on the web site.
